Ballygarvan Camogie Club AGM 2010

Ballygarvan Camogie Club AGM

There was a large attendance at the Ballygarvan Camogie Club AGM held recently in the GAA Club House. The Chairperson, Noreen Daly, welcomed everybody and thanked them for all their work during the year. Noreen also paid tribute to our President Nora Brady who sadly passed away during the year. Nora was one of the members involved when the club was re-established back in the late 80’s.

Congratulations were extended to Emer Dillon on winning another All-Ireland medal with the Cork Senior team. The Chairperson also congratulated the other girls in the Club who played on Cork teams: Aine Moynihan - Senior B, Sara Quilligan, Rebecca Murphy and Lorraine Browne - under 16 and Katie O Donovan – the Cork Colleges under-14 A team. Well done to Katie for achieving 2nd place in the Feile Skills competition. This is the 4th consecutive year a Ballygarvan player has received a reward in this competition. Also congratulations to Amy Walsh who has been selected to play with the Cork Colleges Under-14 team in the coming year. Well done to Lorraine Browne and Rebecca Murphy on receiving awards from Christ King School for their contribution to school camogie and to Rachel Keohane who qualified as a referee last year.

Secretary, Pauline Browne, then outlined some of the club successes during the 2009 season.

Under- 9’s: Won the Carrigdhoun indoor blitz in Riverstick and outdoor blitz in Blackrock.

Under 10’s: Won the 'B' cup at the Ballinhassig Declan Crowley Memorial Blitz. They competed in new league started by the Carrigaline Camogie Club this year. This League is as yet unfinished, but the girls have done very well winning 5 out of 7 games and are awaiting finals day.

Under 11’s: Won the South East B final, beating Tracton in a very exciting final 1-2 to 1-0. Under 18’s: Reached the County B Final and were unlucky to be beaten by Eire Og by just 2 points. Junior B: This team started the season with a loss to Inniscarra but went on to win their other games, beating Ballinhassig, Douglas and Valley Rovers to meet Inniscarra for the second time in County Final. This time they made no mistake, taking the title on a scoreline of 2-5 to 3 points. Congratulations to all involved.

Terry Brady, Secretary of Ballygarvan GAA Club, chaired the election of officers and the following were elected: President: Ollie Hallahan; Vice President: Yvonne Lane; Chairperson: Ollie Hallahan; Vice Chairperson: Jennifer Browne; Secretary: Pauline Browne; Treasurer: Ann Byrne; PRO: Marie Murphy; Registrar: Ann Byrne.
