Juvenile Club
The junior section of Ballygarvan GAA Club has been on the go now for over thirty years. In 1978 a small group of dedicated individuals decided, in conjunction with the adult club, to break away from the then Owenabue Rovers to form the now successful and very vibrant under-age section of Ballygarvan GAA Club.
The original members of that committee were Chairman Billy Dillon, Vice-Chairman Michael Forrest, Secretary Bunny Dunne, Treasurer Tim OʼCallaghan, (decʼd) and committee members Bernie OʼSullivan, Eamon Brady, Jim OʼHalloran and Edmond Forrest. Since those early days the club has gone from strength to strength and today boasts one of the most innovative and forward thinking juvenile clubs in the county.
Over the years the junior section of the club has overseen the training and development of what are now todays adult players. There have been many fine players pass through the junior club over the years not least Ger Spillane with multiple All Ireland medals and an All Star Award. There have been many other award winning players as well who have come through this junior club over the years and we look forward to even more success for our young athletes going into the future.
This measure of this clubs success is not only the success of individual players but also the success and achievement of having large numbers of children from throughout the area coming down to training and matches on a regular basis. The growth in population of the area in recent years has meant an influx of new players and new talent for which the club is truly grateful. The job of this club now is to nurture and train these young players in an atmosphere of fairness and competitiveness and hopefully they will go forward with the desire to represent not only our local club but also their Division and County.
