"Play and Stay" Blitzes - May and June 2009.

AIB, one of the longest supporters of club and grassroots GAA, has joined forces with the GAA, to launch a new initiative, the "GAA Play & Stay introductory blitzes', aimed at increasing the participation of young people in Gaelic games.

An extension of the "Go Games" programme, which caters for the varying developmental needs of young players, the GAA "Play and Stay" introductory blitzes will specifically target children aged between 7 and 8, for whom this may be their introduction to Gaelic games and a GAA club.

The blitzes will take place in over 530 centres across the 32 counties during the months of May and June 2009.

Speaking at the launch, Nicky English, AIB said "We are delighted to support this wonderful initiative, which aims to encourage a new generation of children to our games. It will offer great benefits to children through participation in sport, and by learning the values of being part of a GAA club".

School visits will be organised nationwide in April, to give details of how to get involved in these blitzes, and outline the long term benefits of being part of a team and a GAA Club.

"This initiative is about opening up GAA to a new audience of young people, and increasing the participation of children in all our games" said President of the GAA, Nickey Brennan, at today's launch. "This will get them into a club near where they live, for what will be a fun and relaxed introduction to playing Gaelic football or hurling"

"The club is at the heart of the GAA, and continual club development, including new members, is vital to ensure that the GAA continues to thrive and succeed" concluded the GAA president.
