U13 Hurling v Nemo Rangers

City U13 hurling league match v Nemo Rangers on Monday 4 May at 7pm. Venue: Trabeg, Nemo. Ballygarvan U13 hurlers gave the best performance of their season to date in a very competitive game played against a strong Nemo Rangers side. Ballygarvan played with a mix of aggression and skill in this highly entertaining game. The half time score saw Nemo lead by one goal on a scoreline of 1-6 to 2-0. The two first half goals coming from a sweet Adam Brennan shot that lobbed the goalkeeper and found its way to the corner of the net and also a pile driver from Richard Cassidy. Ballygarvan vowed to redouble their efforts in the second half and the coaches along the enthusiastic support were not disappointed. Colin O Callaghan dominated the scoring stakes with 2-1 (all from frees). The defence of Calum O Brien in goal with Adam O leary, Luke O Halloran, Colm O Sullivan, Conor O Brien, John Bowen and Robert O Donovan were superb on the night with their committed attacking of the ball a highlight along with a masterclass in hooking and blocking by all. The midfield pairing of Andrew French and Colin O Callaghan worked tirelessly throughout the hour - a highlight was the superd tackling skills of Andrew. Ballygarvan's forwards were very lively throughout and with a bit more ball in the second half players like Richard Cassidy, Harry Naidoo, Adam Brennan, Killian Fitzgerald, Dan Begley, Luke Dunlea, Aaron Buckley, Shane Sexton, Matthew Anthony and Eugene O Brien would have notched more scores. The game ended on a scoreline of 4-1 to 2-10 in Nemo's favour. Ballygarvan can take great pride from their performance and the parents and supporters present were delighted with the manner in which the team battled to the final whistle. The Nemo mentors were very impressed by the improvement in the Ballygarvan players' team play and skill since the teams first met some weeks back. Well done to all involved and with continued improvement the team will go to new heights in the future. Ballygarvan: Calum O Brien, Adam O Leary, Luke O Halloran, Colm O Sullivan, Conor O Brien, John Bowen (Captain), Robert O Donovan, Andrew French, Colin O Callaghan, Richard Cassidy, Aaron Buckley, Dan Begley, Adam Brennan, Killian Fitzgerald, Harry Naidoo, Shane Sexton, Luke Dunlea, Matthew Anthony and Eugene O Brien. Absent: Ben Spillane (injured) and Darragh Mannion. Referee: Criostóir Brúdair (Na Piarsaigh).
