Camogie Junior Shield County Semi-Final

Ballygarvan 2-7 v Valley Rovers 1-1 The Ballygarvan girls put Valley Rovers under a lot of pressure in the first quarter of the County Semi-Final of the Junior Shield competition. However, the Valley’s defence were difficult to penetrate and this period yielded only 2 points for Ballygarvan. Then, a well-taken free by the industrious Maeve Moynihan deceived the Valley’s goalie and found the back of the net. Valley Rovers quickly responded with a goal which reduced the Ballygarvan lead to just two points despite them having the bulk of possession. However, hard work led to Ballygarvan finding the net for the second time when wing forward Bernadeth Keohane doubled on another free taken by Moynihan. This was followed by a point from Rosanne Byrne just before the short whistle. Michelle Dunne opened the scoring in the early minutes of the second half with her second point. Again Valley Rovers responded with a point at the other end. This was to be their final score in the game. In defence, Laura O’ Callaghan, Barbara Brown, Anne Keohane, and Denise Crowley made it very difficult for the Valley’s forwards, and Katie O’ Donovan stopped two certain goals. Sara Quilligan and Maeve Moynihan added a further three points before the final whistle. Well done and best of luck to all the girls who now look forward to the county final in this competition.
