Fé 21 B Hurling County Championship Semi Final
In Brinny
Result: Ballygarvan 1-7 Doheny's 1-6
In terrible conditions for a game of hurling, Ballygarvan will be pleased to have come out one point winners in the Fé 21 B Hurling Championship semi final over Doheny's in Brinny last Saturday.
Bally went in at half time, trailing by 3 points. Doheny's obviously did their homework, as Dan McCarthy was being very tightly marked throughout, but when Emmet Aherne found McCarthy in the first minute of the second half, instinctively, McCarthy found the back of the net! All square, game on! The duo combined again minutes later, this time McCarthy scoring a point and Bally very much in control or so it seemed.
Darren Sweetnam had a very solid game for Doheny's and was proving a tough man to mark and punished Bally further with his frees.
With two minutes remaining of normal time, both teams were drawing at 1-6 each. Dan McCarthy had the final say, with another point. Doheny's tried hard to draw the game again, but Bally's backs held them at bay in a nail biting finish.
Micheál Ó Sé must be commended on his efforts in goal. Conditions were tough, while he may thank the puddle for helping in the first half, which sent the Doheny's attempt wide, it can't have been an easy task in goal, yet he pulled off some excellent saves from a very good Doheny's team.
Ballygarvan now face St. Catherine's in the County Final on the 22nd of October. Time/venue will be posted on www.ballygarvangaa.ie once confirmed.
