Edmond Forrest, Cork County Board PRO

15th December 2014

Last Sunday, Edmond Forrest, one of our greatest administrators, was elected as PRO of the Cork County Board.
Everybody who knows Edmond is well aware of what he is capable of and he will be a huge asset to Cork GAA.
Edmond has played a major role in the development of Ballygarvan GAA Club over the past 40 years as well as playing a prominent role as both secretary and Chairman of the Carrigdhoun Division and serving on various committees of both Cork County Board and Rebel Óg.
As a member of one of Ballygarvan's most prominent GAA Families Edmond won a South East medal with Ballygarvan as a player alongside his three brothers in 1977 before going on to become a dynamic Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman of the Club during perhaps its most active period which saw the club acquire two pieces of land and develop them into the magnificent facility that they are today.
Edmond became secretary of the Carrigdhoun Division before going on to be one of its most progressive Chairmen in the 1980's.
Having worked abroad for a number of years Edmond returned to play a prominent role again in Ballygarvan GAA Club over-seeing the development of the Club's new state of the art Ball Wall and All Weather Pitch.
Edmond, who is currently Vice President of Ballygarvan GAA Club has most recently served as Treasurer of Rebel Óg. We wish him well in his new role as PRO.

Club Loan Scheme

Ballygarvan GAA Club announces its launch of the club's new Club Loan Scheme.
The club is looking for seventy families or club members to lend the club €1000 for a period of no longer than six years.
The club is keen to clear off the clubs existing bank loan with a view to freeing up capital within the club for expenditure on coach and player development as well as having money to do some much needed club maintenance and infrastructure projects into the future. Clearing off this loan early will put the club in a very good position with the bank in the event of the club needing to borrow money in the future for any big infrastructure project that the club may want to undertake.
As a mark of appreciation for lending this money to the club the donor will receive a free book of lotto tickets per week as well as getting their club family membership or indeed player membership or any other sort of club membership paid, for as long as the loan remains outstanding to the donor. This is worth between €450 and over €500 annually, depending on your membership type, for as long as the loan remains outstanding.
A number of donors will have their loans repaid each year. This will be done by drawing lots. It is proposed to repay up to twelve donors each year until everyone is paid back the money lent to the club. All loans will be repaid within six years.
The right to the free membership and the free weekly book of lotto tickets will cease once the loan is repaid to the donor.
We would ask all of our club members to seriously consider getting involved in this scheme to help the club achieve its potential into the future.
A further announcement will be made at our AGM on 10/12/14.
If you would like more information on this scheme please contact Ted Mc Carthy on 087-9182646 or any club committee member.

Photo shoot of Ballygarvan GAA and Camogie teams

A chairde,

2014 will go down in the history books for Ballygarvan. Not only did it hold its inaugural Agricultural Show in August 2014 but Ballygarvan has also had one of its most successful years ever on GAA pitches the length and breadth of the County. To date, teams from Ballygarvan including the school, the camogie club and the GAA Club have between them won at least 16 trophies (We hope we didn't forget any) and we may not be finished yet with our under 15 and under16 boys still involved at County level. The two Cúl Camps recorded their biggest attendances ever and both clubs played in a huge number of blitzs in camogie, football and hurling.

Because of this truly auspicious year for the school and the two clubs we think it is very important to make a photographic record of all of the players and coaches who were at the heart of making this such a wonderful year.

We are planning to take photos of all of the individual teams from the very youngest to the adult teams along with their coaches and of course with the trophies that each team won.

We then want to take a huge group photo of all of the players in their respective club colours, red for the boys and white for the girls in such a way that it looks like an enormous Ballygarvan flag from a distance but up close you can see every individual player. We will also include all of the trophies in this big picture. This picture can then be made available electronically to all club members along with any team photos that people want. Logistically this will be a huge task but much easier no doubt than winning a County.

At the moment we have penciled in next Sunday morning at 11.30am as the time for the photo-shoot, weather permitting. At the moment Accuweather says it is sunny all day next Sunday.

We would plead with all players from all of the school and clubs teams, both young and old, to make a special effort to be at this photo-shoot. Players are asked to wear either a red or white top as appropriate, ideally a club jersey but any red or white top will do. If people could wear dark trousers or shorts etc so as to make the red and white stand out it would be a great help. Coaches are asked to wear club colours as well if they have them please.

This picture should include players from the very youngest to the oldest so that twenty years from now they can call into any house in Ballygarvan or log onto Facebook or its equivalent anywhere in the world and say look that's me there at the front with Johnny or Mary so and so and remember the great year we had in 2014.

We want to thank you all for your efforts during the year and lets hope it is the beginning of even greater things for Ballygarvan.

"Ar scáth a chéile a mhairimid"
