South East Junior Football League Semi Final
Ballygarvan continued their preparatation’s for next Saturday Week’s County Junior Football Final when they easily defeated Shamrocks in the Semi Final of the South East Junior Football League , played under lights in Ballygarvan last night. Lining out without 6 regulars Ballygarvan repeated their championship victory over a Shamrocks team who were very game all through, but had their limitations up front with some wayward shooting.
Ballygarvan hit the ground running and Michael Brady opened the scoring with a well taken point in the first minute, before a brace of goals from Paudie O Sullivan and Denis O Regan in the 4th and 6th minutes really rocked the visitors. Shamrocks responded with 2 points from Joe Shanahan in the 12th and 13th minutes, but these were to prove their only scores of the game. After ten minutes without a score, Ballygarvan upped the pace in the last six minutes of the half with 2 points from Gary White and one from Denis O Regan between the 24th & 28th minute before Joe Spillane finished off a flowing move with a piledriver of a shot which burst through the net, to leave Ballygarvan 3-04 to 0-02 ahead at the break.
The action in the second half was slow to take off and we had to wait until the 39th minute for a point by Ciaran O Sullivan, and this was followed by five points in a row between the 42nd and 49th minute from Liam Dillon, Joe Spillane, Mark Kennefick, Michael Brady and Gary White .With both teams using their subs the game petered out as Ballygarvan were in total control with Ger Spillane, Alan Murphy, Alan Butler and John Barron most impressive in the back line, Joe Spillane dominating the midfield, and Gary White, Denis O Regan, Michael Brady and substitute Mark Kennefick the pick of the forwards. Ballygarvan march on to the County Final in good health.
